The design alone isn't the motivation to use the product it merely enhances it. But there has to be a reason to use the product first- some task made easier and more fun by the great design. Of course I think the only users not bothered by the first part of the review already own Macs and made it to that point in their life where elegance is valid criteria. A detailed comparison with other similar products would have been warranted, but unless the reviewer has a special interest in the subject matter it would best be left to someone else. It is a well polished, though not feature rich, application worthy of interest. It isn't just another database of DVDs & Books.

And if you do develop software you should be willing to listen, especially at how first impressions make all the difference.įrom the review I get the impression the reviewer sees little point in using the program in the long term for himself, but nonetheless thinks the programs fits well in its niche. Unless you develop software for Windows/Linux or Mac, I don't see how you can take it personally. To those who took it personally, get over it.

To those who took the first part of the review as a criticism of the install process under Windows/Linux: Good.

Pointing out the conceptual simplicity of the entire process is not unwarranted. Utilities are more complicated than applications.) (Not to say the Mac is perfect in this regard, it is not. Installing software on the Mac is unlike installing software on a PC.

It is utterly unlike setting up a PC in every imaginable way. I wish I had video taped myself opening the box and putting the system together. Not a fan of Linux due to its utter lack of polish. I decided I was tired of the PC platform, its headaches and hassles. I've been using & programming PCs (IBM clones, etc) since 1988, and had only used a Mac for a total of about 20 minutes between then and last year. I was amused at the direction of the review, and the response to it. (What are the limits on a collection size, more export/import options of the final program). These points were acknowledged by the reviewer though. I thought the review was decent, it is unfortunate a few details were missing. Understand that I'm not railing against this particular form of easy installation method at all - on the contrary, I can fully appreciate its benefits in many circumstances - just the argument that it is inarguably better than any other method. Ability to choose whether certain files will always open with this application from now on Ability to choose which components will be installed Ability to choose whether a shortcut is placed in the Start menu/desktop/quick lanch bar I'm sure plenty of people would argue, quite reasonably imo, that the following aspects commonly found in a Windows installer are useful: How does one argue that an installer, along with all the registry mess, is better than placing an application in a directory and being done with it? All you're doing with this statement is further proving my point. See, not everyone agree with you and your opinion is not empirically correct. But in some instances, such as software installation, the alternate view is stupid!
